Celebrating Over 36 years In Our 3rd Generation
Our Story
In 1967, a man by the name of Jack Messick opened a restaurant called
The Boat House. Meanwhile, next door at the Arco gas station, three
brothers- Bob, Jack, and Jimmy Campbell were hard at work pumping
gas and fixing cars. Mr. Messick was one of their regular customers.
One day, he came to the station and said that he “had enough”
and it was time for him to move on. In 1972, the Campbell brothers,
along with their parents Rose and Bill, purchased “Campbell’s” Boat House.
Campbell brothers Bob and Jim remained owners since the 70's. Now
the 3rd generation is stepping in. Bob, his daughter Jan, and husband
Andrew, plan on keeping "The Boat" sailing for another
30 years. And so the story continues...or as we always say...as
"The Boat" floats...
Today, not only is there a 3rd generation of Campbells working at the Boat House, but we are serving our 3rd generation of customers. We are now waiting on the children and grandchildren of customers from years ago. Rose Campbell (a.k.a. Mom Mom) instilled the welcoming, family feel from day one when the Campbell family opened the doors. She was our first “greeter,” seating customers with her warm, friendly style.
The Campbells have been known for their love of the water- boating, fishing, sailing, and spending time at the Jersey shore. This is apparent as soon as you step into the building. There are sharks and fish hanging on the walls, nautical paintings, fishing pictures, and a replica of a Chesapeake Bay Buy boat doubling as a bar with a live fish tank in the middle.
